Please Prove You are Not a Robot

I’ve been dabbling in the blogging world for a while now. I love meeting new people and commenting on their blogs.
One thing that gets me every time  . . . when I leave a comment on someone’s blog, sometimes a box will come up with gibberish for me to type in (you know what I’m talking about. Words like grimshk clikea or paveat hariua). I’ve noticed recently that the top of the box says, “Please prove you are not a robot.”
This gets me giggling every single time.
I’m not sure why. I mean it’s perfectly clear I’m not a robot. (See above where I masterfully typed “grimshk clikea” and “paveat hariua"). And there is nothing funny about being a robot. I’m sure there are lots of nice, hard-working robots in the world.
We shouldn’t judge.
Maybe next time that message comes up, I’ll type in “beep bop boop beep.” Then we’ll see what it does!
Happy Writing!

  1. This was my moan about the A to Z Challenge, many people still had their verification words on.
I agree about the word Robot, some Robot may be clever enough to write it.

  2. The captcha thingy is unnecessary because the blog-owner can delete posts if they're spammy. I also often write nonsense and it still lets me in. The worst ones though are the blogs where you have to write your name, email, website and then do a captcha job. By the time I've finished all that, I've forgotten what I was going to say in the comment!

  3. LOL Loved this! Captcha drives me crazy some days, but thankfully only a few blogs I read use it.

  4. LOL! I've never thought of it like that. I'm totally going to make up my own robot language in the future. :)

  7. Lol! “beep bop boop beep.”

Another blogger made me aware of an A.I. program called "cleverbot" invented by Google, I think. The A.I. is evolving by speaking to humans. Twice I have amused myself (wasted time) by educating the bot. And both times, it has accused me of being a bot. Perhaps my response should have been “beep bop boop beep.” ;-)

  8. lol Cute. The verifications can be annoying. Sometimes they're impossible to read.

  9. I've experimented with the word verif codes that show up and found that sometimes you can miss 2 or even 3 letters and it still approves you!

  10. I Lol'ed at your post! Spam filter catches spammy comments and if it lets it in, blog owner can always delete it. But interesting thing from the comments above that you misspell the captcha yet it still lets you post, so whats the use of it?

  11. I solemnly swear that I am not a robot.

I used to have that in my comments, but I think I took it down. It's not like I have issues with spam.

  13. aw, robots are good people too ;)

But yes, those word verification thingies drive me crazy.

  14. Hi Jessica -- it's not only robots who have trouble with those codes -- I wear trifocals and have old tired eyes, so sometimes it takes me two or three tries to get it right. Sadly, I often give up instead. I took that verification option off my blog so folks wouldn't get discouraged.

  15. Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday..my name is Tina and I am not a robot.

  16. Ahahahaha! Good post! Here is a weird thought: sometimes I think the words chosen are specific to me. How crazy is that? Then, other times, I seem to require ar least 4 tries to "prove I am not a robot"...
I don't understand. Are there parallel... or, possibly even higher!!!... universes at work here, which are beyond my knowledge???

I need to study this further, when I get a month (or a YEAR) off from my fascinating, gripping, REGULAR life!!!

    boop boop. jean! :)

  17. Hi Jessica! I know that word verification thing is a bother. You know what makes me laugh every time? It is that t.v. commercial for insurance where that old lady says, "The boat, the boat, the boat! You put it in the water, you take it out of the water...."

I love your blog, and thanks so much for your visit and for following me. I am your newest follower, and can't wait until my next visit over here.

  18. Fun! I'm thinking of one of Isaac Asimov's robot creations, trying to comment on a thought provoking post, and having a cloud come over his positronic brain when he has to deny his very being.

  19. You have such a wonderfully positive attitude about the word verification. I absolutely detest it and often won't return to blogs because of it. Half the time, I can't even read the mystery words anyway.

  20. Apparently, I'm a robot. I can hardly ever read the first word in the image.

  21. I hate those verification boxes! Half the time I have to sit there staring at it forever to figure out what it is.

  22. I hate these. I've had them off for a while but then blogger goes and resets them sometimes so it is always good to check

  23. So frustrating! I'm trying to join your site via GFC, but it will NOT let me. I'll keep trying. I want to return the favor. Thanks, by the way, for commenting and following. I ALWAYS return a follow. Now, if I could only get GFC to cooperate.

  24. I fail the human test all the time. I'm like really, if you want to make sure it is a person than allow for typos, only a robot gets it right every time.

BTW - I'm following you now. Not in the creepy stalker way, but in the I'm hanging at your blog kind of way. :)

  25. I hate those. I'm so not a bot, but I'm old. And sometimes it takes me 3 tries to get the nonsense in right. Sometimes it's not worth the time to comment.

    Just sayin'.

  26. This was a funny post. I have to say my heart sinks when I see the word verification. I always thought, aren't robots too busy to read blogs anyway?? They're programmed to work!

Thanks for the follow and comment. Following back! :)

  27. Does the fact that I've managed to read and respond to the blog post not already prove that I'm not a robot?

  28. The other day I was almost convinced I really was a robot. I failee the human test like three times on one blog and twice on another.

  29. Enjoyed this piece. Have you heard the the "voice verification" that blogger now gives as an option to verify? It is TOTALLY freaky.
