C: Children

My nephew is a wonderful child. He just turned five and has such an adorable imagination. He certainly gets his creativity from his writer aunt! A few months ago, he called his mom while she was at work. As you can imagine, my sister nearly had a heart attack, thinking it was an emergency.
It wasn’t. He just wished to let her know that she forgot her book at home. (He is always that helpful and he knows a girl without her book is lost).
So that led to a long conversation when she got home about only calling in a real emergency—if the house was on fire or someone was bleeding, things like that.
My nephew thought about it for a moment and then asked, “So if aliens landed on our roof, would that be an emergency?”
Yep, that’s a budding young author if there ever was one.

  3. I have a nephew who is five also and his imagination is amazing! he carries on whole baseball games in his head and his hands (along with his current obsession of Transformers). Unfortunately yours and mine are not the norm lately- I teach this same age and a lot of times their imagination needs a lot of boosting :(

  8. every age is a good age for children...

i did not realize the gift they were when i was living in the moment. too often i was busy being dad.

i live without regret but also know i have made my share of mistakes. and missed a bunch of opportunities.

cherish the children, too soon they are adults and move on...

  12. Kids say the darndest things. However, regarding emergencies, if the landed aliens immediately stated that they came in peace and just wanted to prepare dinner for you all, then yes, there would be an emergency because you would have to decide what wine to pick up and bring home. cm

  16. That's a good parent right there! She's taught him how to use the phone.

Me, I'm keeping Kiddo far, far away from the vagaries of public address systems. Plenty of time for that when she's a teenager. Yes, I am admittedly "bad mommy".

Thanks for stopping by from the AtoZ challenge! See you around.

  17. I shudder at how often I used to call my mom and bother her at work, but her employers didn't mind cause it was one of those feast or famine window jobs at a pharmacy. If it was feast she didn't answer and famines are dull.

Your nephew sounds absolutely adorable! I wouldn't doubt him needing qualification on whether certain other acts qualify as emergencies in the future.
